Diabetes: Steps to take to practice preventive medicine

If genetics predisposes us to certain diseases, then I am in big trouble when it comes to type 2 diabetes. It is extremely rampant in my family, especially as we age.  Research does show a big correlation between genetics and diabetes, so let’s just say I am watching it like a hawk. Does that mean I am home free? Not necessarily, but at least I will have a better chance of avoiding the disease if I practice preventive measures. Practicing preventive medicine is always the best scenario.

Tips can help you choose the right shoes

I almost croaked the other day when one of my clients told me she had been wearing the same pair of running shoes for a year.
No, they had not been sitting in her closet. She had been wearing them to run – no wonder her knees were hurting.
The first words out of my mouth were “Go get a new pair of shoes; it’s a lot cheaper than a visit to the orthopedics office.”

Choose workout shoes carefully

My daughter’s wedding is over. Everything was perfectly perfect.

I do, however, think my feet may be permanently damaged from the cute shoes that I had to wear because they looked so good with my dress.

I guarantee you that they were not made to dance outside on a concrete floor, especially to that song that has you stomping around and hopping one, two and three time ( I think it is called the “Cuban Shuffle”).

I was so caught up in all the fun that I did not go to the car to get my more comfortable shoes. So, after a while, I just kicked off my shoes and danced barefoot. That was mistake number two. Oh well, what we do for our kids, right? (more…)
