Diabetes: Steps to take to practice preventive medicine

If genetics predisposes us to certain diseases, then I am in big trouble when it comes to type 2 diabetes. It is extremely rampant in my family, especially as we age.  Research does show a big correlation between genetics and diabetes, so let’s just say I am watching it like a hawk. Does that mean I am home free? Not necessarily, but at least I will have a better chance of avoiding the disease if I practice preventive measures. Practicing preventive medicine is always the best scenario.

Always feel like it’s time to take a nap?

Okay, I have been tired before and certainly have been exhausted at the end of a long active day but getting out of bed in the morning wondering when there would be time to sneak a power nap, was definitely something new for me. After blaming it on hormones (or lack of hormones) I finally went to my physician to get my annual physical. When he asked how I felt, my reply was great. I am very busy with my business, exercising every day, not to mention mom stuff and house stuff but mentioned to him about the extreme tiredness and foggy brain feeling. I am sure it is just my hormones gone wild I said, but he was adamant about some blood tests. Well long story short, I got a phone call two days later. It was Dr. Morin who said “get down to my office tomorrow, your B12 levels are extremely low and we need to get you on B12 shots once a week for four weeks.” Admittedly, I was kind of glad there was a good reason for the tiredness and fog.
